New Garage Doors in Smithtown, NY

A new garage door is the biggest moving thing on your house and one of the first things people see from the street. We install Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton and CHI doors across the Town of Smithtown — steel, insulated, carriage-house, vinyl, wood and full-view glass — starting at $1,575 installed, with $300 off.

Quick answer

What is the best garage door for a Smithtown home? For most attached garages in the town, an insulated steel door is the best value: stiffer, quieter and warmer than a basic steel door, from $2,015 for a single and $2,975 for a double. For older or estate homes, carriage-house or wood doors suit the architecture better.

Choosing a Door Material

Steel

The most common choice, for good reason: strong, affordable, many styles and colors, low upkeep. Non-insulated steel is a single skin; insulated steel adds a foam core and often a second steel skin, which makes it much more dent-resistant and quieter.

Vinyl

Won't rust, dent easily or need painting. A good choice where salt air reaches the garage, like the waterfront parts of Kings Park, Fort Salonga and Nissequogue.

Wood

Beautiful on older houses in St. James, Head of the Harbor and historic parts of Smithtown. Heavier, and needs refinishing every few years.

Aluminum and glass

Full-view doors for modern homes, or for a garage used as a workshop or gym that needs daylight.

Matching the Door to the House

Driving around the town you see the same few house types again and again, and each looks best with a certain kind of door:

  • Ranches and split-levels from the 1950s and '60s look right with a short or long raised-panel steel door, often with a row of windows at the top.
  • Hi-ranches, with the garage on the lower level, benefit most from an insulated door because there's living space right above.
  • Center-hall colonials in Commack, Smithtown and St. James suit carriage-house doors with decorative hardware.
  • Older and estate homes in Head of the Harbor and Nissequogue often call for wood or a high-end carriage-house door. See carriage-house doors.

What Happens on Installation Day

  1. We protect the driveway and floor, release the old springs safely and take down the old door and tracks.
  2. We check the jambs and header. Rotted wood around the opening gets pointed out before the new door goes up.
  3. New tracks, the new door section by section, new springs sized to the new door's weight, new cables.
  4. Bottom seal, side and top weather stripping if ordered, opener reconnected and adjusted.
  5. Balance, force and auto-reverse tests, and a walk-through of care and the warranty.

Old door, tracks and springs leave with us.

Insulation, Windows and Upgrades

Insulation

Foam insulation makes the door stiffer and quieter as well as warmer. On an attached garage with a room above, it's the upgrade we recommend most.

Windows

A row of windows at the top lets light in and changes the look of the house from the street. Window inserts add from $425.

Weather sealing

New side and top stripping (from $239) and a bottom seal keep out wind, leaves and the occasional mouse.

Questions to Ask Before You Buy

  • Is the price installed? Ours include tracks, springs sized to the new door, hardware, bottom seal and installation.
  • What springs come with it? Ask whether they're sized to the door's weight and whether high-cycle springs are an option.
  • Is it insulated, and how? A single layer of foam behind steel is different from a steel-foam-steel sandwich.
  • What's the warranty — on the door, the springs, and the labor? Ours is in writing.
  • Who takes the old door away? We do (from $415).
  • Will my opener work with it? Usually yes; if it's old, it may be a good time to replace it too.

Sizes We See Most in the Town

Most attached garages here have either a single door around 8 or 9 feet wide or a double door around 16 feet wide, and most are 7 feet tall. Some newer and custom homes have 8-foot-tall doors for larger vehicles. Older detached garages can be narrower and shorter than today's standard sizes, and a few have openings that are out of square.

We measure the opening, the headroom, the side room and the back room before ordering, so the door fits the garage you have, not the size on an old receipt. If an opening is unusual, we'll talk about the options, including custom sizes.

Two singles or one double? On many two-car garages with a center post, two single doors are easier on springs and openers and let one car out if one door has a problem.

New Garage Door Questions

Straight answers with our starting prices. Last updated October 2026.

How much does a new garage door cost in Smithtown, NY?

Installed, with removal of the old door available: a single non-insulated steel door starts at $1,575, an insulated single at $2,015, a double non-insulated at $2,525 and an insulated double at $2,975. Vinyl starts at $3,295, wood at $3,650, and full-view aluminum and glass at $3,925. Take $300 off with our new-door coupon.

Is an insulated garage door worth it?

For an attached garage, usually yes. An insulated door is stiffer, dents less, runs quieter and keeps the garage warmer in winter and cooler in summer — which matters when a bedroom or den sits over or beside the garage, as it does in many split-levels and hi-ranches.

How long does it take to install a new garage door?

Most residential door installations take about half a day once the door arrives, including removing the old door and installing new tracks, springs and seals. Ordering the door from the manufacturer takes longer than installing it; we'll give you the lead time when you choose.

Which garage door brands do you install?

We install doors from Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton and CHI. We help you choose by style, insulation, color, windows and how much upkeep you want, and we order the right springs for the door's weight.

What warranty comes with a new garage door?

New doors carry 5 to 10 years, depending on the door and its manufacturer. Springs installed with the door carry our 5-year spring warranty, and our labor is covered too. You get the terms in writing.

Do you remove and dispose of the old garage door?

Yes. Haul-away of the old door, tracks and springs starts at $415. We take everything with us and leave the garage clean.

Garage door trouble? Call us.
